Teach-out v Transfer Pathway

To date, Lourdes University has held in-person meetings with Faculty & Staff (2/11) and students (2/12), with upcoming Zoom calls scheduled for parents (2/17 @ 6pm) and students (2/18 @ 1:30).

We continue to advance conversations with the University of Toledo as our primary teach-out partner, and while we remain incredibly grateful for their support, we know that they cannot meet the needs of every one of our students. More than 40 universities and community colleges have already reached out with interest in helping our students transfer as well. We are compiling that list and will be adding direct links, as soon as we get them, to our website for students to explore transfer pathways and teach-out opportunities.

There seemed to be some confusion at the student town hall about the difference between a teach-out and a transfer pathway. There’s a chart online at lourdes.edu/closure. Ultimately, it’s up to the student to decide what is best for them, but a teach-out is a contractual agreement with another university with the same major to offer guaranteed acceptance to Lourdes students in good standing, accept 100% of your classes, match your current out of pocket costs, and ensure that you can graduate in the same timeframe you expected to at Lourdes. Conversely, a transfer pathway offers preferential acceptance in a streamlined admissions process. The transfer pathway university is not required to accept all of your classes or match your current financial aid package, but that can happen. In either scenario, Lourdes students do not have to transfer to a university that is on our teach-out or transfer pathway list. This decision is yours and we are here to support you through whatever decision you make.
