Separation of Church and State: Protecting Your Beliefs and Your Democracy

April 11 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Hot Button Issue presentations focus on current topics of special interest to the League and the community at large. They are sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Toledo-Lucas County.

Many have come to believe that our founders intended for the United States to be a Christian nation. However, the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution clearly states that there shall be no establishment of a national religion. A movement called Christian nationalism is advocating that Christian values, symbols and beliefs form the identity of our republic and that idea is being supported by recent laws and court decisions. Join us to learn how this concept is undermining our democratic principles. Speakers:

Kristin Blochowski, Lourdes University Criminal and Social Justice Professor (including Constitutional law); Bachelor of Arts in Political Science; Master’s in Education; Juris Doctor; former FBI agent and practicing lawyer.

Dale Lanigan, Lourdes University adjunct professor, former Chair of Lourdes University Sociology and Justice Studies; former University of Toledo professor; former pastor; Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Master’s in Theological Studies, and Doctor’s of Education in Educational Sociology.
